His time of departure had come - he kept the faith, he fought a good fight,
and at 9:00 am on Monday, February 22 1999, at the Fredericksburg Nursing Home
in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Joseph Johnson, Jr. finished his course. God looked
beyond all of his faults, saw his needs, and called him home.

Born January 1, 1917, to the late Joseph and Laura Lee Johnson, Joseph lived all
of his life in Bowling Green, VA, where he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
He married Rosie E. Johnson on August 2, 1934, and God blessed them with three
lovely Children. Laura Lee and Franklin preceded him in death.

"Boo-Boo", as he was affectionately called by family and friends, recieved
his education in the public schools of Caroline County. God blessed him with
many talents. As a young man, he was known as the best shoemaker in the county.
Additionally, he was blessed with carpentry and electrical skills. His home was
once filled with the cabinets crafted by him. His work stood out for itself in
such a way that he often had more calls than he could fufill.

Later he was employed by FMC Corporation in Fredericksburg, VA, for more
than 30 years. Joe loved outdoor life where he enjoyed hunting, trapping, and
fishing.

During the last months of his illness, he developed a profound love for
ice cream. This love followed him to the nursing home, where he earned the
nickname "Ice Cream Man." His devoted health providers, Barbara Johnson and
Barbara Zellner, pampered and spoiled him and gave him ice cream whenever he
wanted it.
